Della's Question of the Week #1: Should there be a ConCon?

With there being 26 weeks until Election Day 2008, I thought it would be meaningful to start a "Question of the Week" for the HawaiiConCon.org eCommunity. There are, of course, many questions being asked and answered throughout this website, but I also thought that this question would allow me to experiment with blogging and e-polling since I've not done much of these before HawaiiConCon.org. (Thanks to the encouragement of my new tech-geek friends - sorry if I don't have the terminology correct. I am truly a newbie!)

Here's what I thought I'd do - I'll post a question on Monday of every week and close the question on Saturday of that week at noon. I'd ask that everyone (1) vote on the question and (2) leave any comments, if you feel so inclined, in response to the question.

I won't "moderate" comments, but I ask that everyone be respectful in their remarks and not engage in any "flaming." (Again, please let me know if I'm not using the correct terms!)

Also, I'd like to take any suggestions to questions that could be posted. I already have several questions drafted, but I could use your help. I'll edit/combine any questions as they are passed along to me before posting them. If I don't ask your exact question, please feel free to post your own polls and questions.

With that said, here's my first Question of the Week:

Aloha HawaiiConCon members (and any visitors to the site) - please remember to vote on this week's question of the week. You've got one and a half days. I've extended the poll's end time to Sunday, May 18th, 12:00 noon. So far, I've only got 32 votes - it sure would be nice to have as many votes as there are members!

This underscores the need for more education to help the undecided come to an informed decision.

A very good comment by Bernafo. We really need to do our homework before taking positions. Those of us who are not experts, including me, should be reviewing the research literature about the problems which motivate us.

This is great! You did it! I hope others will also be influenced to blog up surveys!

Rick, what factors do you see that would lead you to posit that today's electorate would be more "business-friendly" than 30 years ago?

/genuinely curious ...

I'm in complete support of the Constitutional Convention. The last ConCon happened when the population was much more "local". Now, the influx of forward-thinking American voters will allow us to create a much more business-friendly environment and prune out the remnants of the old Hawaiian so-called "rights".

I agree that the decision is pretty complex. I'd like to just get a "temperature check" of where people are on this question at this point in time. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a lot more "Undecided at this time" answers by week's end.

After what I hope will be lots of discussion and education, both at this website and elsewhere, I hope people will be confident in saying that they've made an informed decision. If HawaiiConCon.org can do that - help to create more informed voters - I think we will collectively have accomplished much at this website.
