I am a lifetime resident of O'ahu's North Shore. I have enjoyed access to all ocean activities which includes fishing, surfing, and viewing a sunrise or sunset not blocked by man made structures. I am not anti-development (we need to live and work somewhere). I am, however, in favor of protecting access rights to our beaches, and preserving what is left for future generations to enjoy. Through the years I have seen and experienced a decrease in ocean access brought about by unwise private development of our coastline. I believe that as a resident guest in this special place, not only my host culture, but the land itself should be respected as an independent entity or culture that lives and breathes. I believe that our island lifestyle and our diverse traditions should be shared with others, maintained, protected, and perpetuated. I hope those that do not "feel" the meaning of our State motto, may someday have an understanding of it's spirit. I believe that those who want a further dilution of the definition of land stewardship do not support or respect Hawaii's most valuable resource- our communities and it's everyday people. (ps- I was born in the year of the rooster, hence the photo).

Glad you explained the photo. I was hoping you weren't trying to say that you're a Chicken because we're going to need some brave souls to help lead Hawaii through this most important issue.
