To: Supporters of Nuclear Power for Hawaii

The Nuclear Energy Institute in Washington has agreed to provide data and materials to assist local nuclear supporters in educating Hawaii's citizens on the pros and cons of nuclear power.
If you are interested in helping in this effort, please post a comment so stating, or, if you would prefer, email me at tjmacdonald@earthlink.net
This is the first chance we have had in 30 years to overturn the ill-advised ban on civilian nuclear power that was imposed by the 1978 concon.
With electricty already at 30 cents a kilowatt hour on Oahu and 44 cents on neighbor islands, we need to seize this opportunity !

I continually hear some people say that technology is already available to make us self sufficient in power and blame oil companies or other agencies for stopping development of these technologies. Some even say they have developed these means of independent self sufficiency. I don't know of any laws that prohibit development and distribution of energy sources other than those prohibitions imposed by environmental alarmists. In fact, I'll bet independent funding to develop and market these energy sources is readily available, especially at today's energy costs.
Quite frankly, all the alternate energy sources available has not made a dent in our dependence on oil, is often more expensive and less efficient than oil for mass power generation and quite often undependable. If someone, anyone, has a better mousetrap it would already be on the market.
There is no reason our state constitution should prohibit use of nuclear power or even the cleaner coal fired power plants. HCPC used coal to generate power along the Hilo coast for years and hardly noticed by the residents along the Hilo/Hamakua coastline. It was envirowhackos and recent transplants that started complaining about "potential hazards" of burning coal. And, since those concerns were politically driven by lthe larger environmental political agenda, it was one of the reasons HCPC ceased operation. In retrospect, if the plant was in operation today, our energy costs would possibly be cheaper.

"Pie in the sky dreams" I guess that makes you an expert on physics and energy generation.... I know quite a bit about it, and actually have built 3 devices that power the majority of the electricity I need for pennies compared to Heco prices. The fact is, it is easy for us to get the energy out of things that each household can build from supplies at the hardware store. The problem is, big oil doesn't want us to have them. Therefore, Neither does governement, because legislation has been sponsored by them for nearly a century and they are so closely intertwinned with the electric and oil companies.

So they will never be something that YOU will buy at Costco or Walmart. But the technology is there, and many people are using it, its easy to find, but first you need to put down the ingorance and open up to the possibilities. why wouldn't anyone that is sick of the power being in corrupt hands...
Like the saying goes, you gotta take the power back.

We already have nuclear power plants in Hawaii. There are 18 nuclear powered submarines homeported here. When I drove past Pearl Harbor this morning, there was a nuclear powered carrier there. A nuclear power plant could generate all the clean, low cost power the entire state would need for the foreseeable future.

Pie in the sky dreams about wind power and wave power will not provide the energy this state requires and will require.

I disagree, having a nuclear plant is not what Hawaii needs at all.
If you don't think we can have a sustainable future out here without nuclear, then think again, The real problem is, there is not enough support for the lower middle class to produce their own power, via solar, wind, etc. Did you know that for every car in Hawaii, we can use the parts inside to generate more electricity then Hawaii ever will need. Without oil! There are many, many, ways that our diverse islands can generate power, we just aren't doing them. We keep on looking to big oil, government, or Heco for the answer.
Hint, it won't come from them. But it already exists. Google it people!

Nuclear power just makes us a bigger target for another Pearl Harbor. With todays oil and food crisis, this should be Hawaii's biggest concern, How do we not only get sustainable, but keep the money and food in Hawaii. The answer is to promote healthy living with the people all taking part in growing our "off the grid" energy.
We are at a time of severe crisis in the world, and in Hawaii we are all on the same boat.

One state, our world, not reliant on the rest of the world for food or energy. Wouldn't that be an accomplishment?

Yeah. We have to get rid of the anti-nuclear section. That's just plain nuts. The envirofreaks are all tweaked out but in all of history we've only had two accidents: Chernoble and Three Mile Island. Heck more people die in car accidents.

Here's a good idea. Kahoolawe isn't good for anything. Put the nuke there and undersea cables to feed power to Maui and Big Island.

Even if there is a spill or accident, there's no one on Kahoolawe to get hurt.
