The problem is the occupation...not the entitlements.
Hawiaians want to see the illegal occupation end, foreigners gone and our lands intact.
What do you think of that Conk?
Aloha- I'm not Conk but I have some thoughts here! I think what you are saying is a) Hawaii is illegally occupied so b) without the occupation there'd be no need to take out the entitlements. I can see that point of view but I'm thinking and seeing this forum and web site is for discussion and education about ConCon and not a place for discussion or education about US occupation,no?
This site is focused on ConCon-related topics. The fact that the Hawaii Constitution is within the context of the USA makes this forum you created outside the scope of our discussions.
Aloha Kawehi,
The Sovereignty movement should view this Con Con as an opportunity to participate in the democracy that exists in the here and now. Whether your ideals say so or not, you ARE entitled to participate. I would view it as the best of both worlds: You are invited and enabled to participate in a government you reject--how much better can that be?
In your list of things Hawaiians want, the best chance you have is the keeping of lands, but you saw what happened with the proposed settlement this past session--back to square one is exactly what external players want. You see the lawsuits? The chickens have come to roost. Time is running, and the political capital of the Hawaiian community may be seeping away until there is no way Hawaiians will take back what is rightfully theirs. But there are elements that CAN be preserved through education, preservation and consolidation of OHA, and hard work within the existing system in the near term.
Wizowizu Kawehi,
Perhaps this forum is blind on the subject. I was at OHA when ms Bellati said that Hawaiians should participate here. I think she should have qualified her comment to mean Hawaiians of Kau Inoa or the reservation. Not all Hawaiian but some. I here another Concon is happening maybe that one is not so blind. It is hard for Americans to understand that Hawaii is under Military Occupation like Iraq. Aloha4All No Justice4 Hawaiian. Sad
If I understand it right a treaty never happened but a resolution from the congress gave their president permission to take by force hawaii. The resolution (Newland) is an important evidence in the theft of the country of Hawaii. The akaka will create a quasi country of Hawaii in a tribal form to complete the theft of land. The joke is there is no ceded lands because they were never ceded. There is no treaty of transfer. Only a resolution (Newland) to take against the will of the people of the time. Secession can never happen because cession never happened.
I wonder how many really know that many of Hawaii Revised Statues were part of the Constitution of 1864/65 and 67?
Or the mere fact that the Kingdom of Hawaii was a democratic and not feudal entity.
I strongly believe that the issues that plaque our people need attention..and isnt this CONCON a place to find remedies? Today, the word for illegal occupation is called terrorism..
P. S. Arent our Hawaiian Agencies the wealthiest in the State perhaps even wealthier then the State itself?
